The Corona Virus Pandemic 

Believed to have natural origins and first reported in China the corona virus (COVID-19) is a new infectious disease that has made it's way across the globe. The disease causes a respiratory illness with flu like symptoms such as cough, fever, fatigue and difficulty breathing. Cases can range from mild to severe even causing death. Though serious illness isn't common some are likely to be more susceptible such as young children, the elderly and those with other medical conditions.

The corona virus spreads by direct contact with the infected and can also be contracted but touching a surface with the virus on it then touching the face; particularly the eyes, nose or mouth. There are currently no vaccines to protect against the disease but you can help prevent the spread of the disease by:

  • Washing your hands properly for at least 20 secs.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Cover your nose and mouth properly when coughing or sneezing by using disposable tissues or your elbow.
  • Practice social distancing. Keep 3-6 feet of space between you and others, stay home if possible.
Those with mild symptoms can follow traditional methods of home care for the flu such as getting plenty of rest, drinking enough liquids and staying warm but medical care should be sought out if developing a fever, cough or difficulty breathing.
